John Allerton, Veterinarian
John graduated from the University of Queensland in 1996 and worked at 3 small animal clinics before establishing Birkdale Veterinary Clinic in September 2003. John enjoys applying his many years of experience to find the right treatment for his patients, and has a keen interest in surgery.
John is a member of the Australian Veterinary Association and is AQIS accredited, so he can assist with the export of dogs and cats overseas. He has a Border Collie x Kelpie (Rigby), a cat (Bonnie), and takes particular pride in his outdoor aquarium. With his 2 teenage boys now finished school, he is hoping to see more of Australia with his 4WD and caravan.
Karen Alford, Veterinarian
Since graduating from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Hons) in 2010, Karen lived and worked on Bribie Island before returning to Brisbane and joining Birkdale Veterinary Clinic in January 2016.
She has keen interests in surgery, ultrasonography and cytology. Karen shares her home with her daughter, Mikaela, her Lhasa Apso (Remy), Moodle (Lulu) and 3 cats, Mischief, Nala and Frankie. .
Brittainy Stebbing, Veterinarian
Brittainy graduated from a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Honours) at the University of Queensland in 2012. She has undertaken several internships in speciality hospitals, both rotating through a variety of services, as well as two focused internships in cardiology and internal medicine. She has been fortunate enough to work in small animal clinics and university teaching hospitals in the UK, USA, Sydney and Brisbane since graduating, and is very grateful for the opportunity to work alongside some of the most brilliant minds in the industry. Brittainy has interests in the fields of small animal internal medicine, palliative care, anaesthesia, cardiology and reproduction. She enjoys learning and tries to undertake ongoing study as often as possible in these areas. In her “spare” time, she can be found chasing after her two naughty dogs – Haiku and Confetti and caring for the “zoo” – a collection of birds and exotic fish that currently inhabit her house!
Nicola Sheather, Veterinarian
Nicola graduated from Glasgow Vet School in Scotland in 1998. She worked as a mixed vet, treating farm and companion animals, for 6 years before travelling around Australia doing locum work for 1 year. After returning to the UK she continued veterinary work as a small animal vet on the south coast of England. Nicola was persuaded to come and live in Australia in 2009, originally living in Perth, before she discovered that Brisbane was a much nicer place to live. Nicola has been working at Birkdale Veterinary Clinic since September 2013. Along with enjoying treating cats and dogs, Nicola has a keen interest in wildlife and exotics.
Nathalie Moreitz, Veterinarian
Nathalie completed her Bachelor of Veterinary Science with the University of Sydney in 2001 and worked in clinics in New Zealand and the UK before moving to Brisbane in 2011, undertaking a mix of small animal, shelter work and work in emergency practice. Nathalie joined us as a casual vet in November 2019. In her limited spare time (with a toddler and a newborn), Nathalie loves hiking, kayaking and skiing.
Alison Lackey, Veterinarian
Alison graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from the University of Queensland in 2001 and has worked for many years with the Animal Welfare League Qld and other small animal clinics. Alison currently undertakes locum veterinary work and we have been fortunate to have her assist us on a casual basis since July 2020. In her spare time, Alison enjoys travel, nature, hiking and tennis.
Kerri Allerton, Practice Manager
Our practice manager, Kerri, does her best to keep the day to day operations of the clinic running smoothly, ensuring that all of the legislative requirements are met, and that the Tax Office, our suppliers and of course all of our wonderful staff, are paid correctly and on time! In her spare time, Kerri enjoys camping, socialising with her friends, spending time with her animals and tending to her garden.
Lisa Wright , Veterinary Nurse
Lisa joined our team early 2021 as a Trainee Vet Nurse. She has spent many years as an accountant and then bookkeeper and BAS agent but decided to turn her passion of helping animals into a career. Already holding a Certificate 3 in Veterinary Nursing, Lisa is now continuing her studies with her Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing while working and learning from our amazing vets and nurses.
Already holding a Certificate 3 in Vet nursing, Lisa will soon be continuing her studies with her Certificate IV in Vet Nursing while working and learning from our amazing vets and nurses.
Lisa shares her home with husband Phil, teenage sons Sam and Joe, 2 Cavalier crosses Lucy and Biscuit as well as 4 spoilt and cheeky pet goats.
Melissa Rippon , Veterinary Nurse
Our qualified nurse Melissa has been with us since April 2020. Melissa has a special interest in the many different surgeries performed at our clinic and loves seeing animals happy and providing the love and care they need.
Melissa lives with her partner Jaime and their fur baby Kobe, a King Charles Cavalier who she loves taking for walks by the beach. In her spare time Melissa enjoys arts and crafts and exploring different places.
Jill Younger, Veterinary Nurse
Jill is our longest standing employee and has been with us since May 2008. Jill completed her nursing studies in the UK before moving to Australia with her husband, son and daughter in 2007. Jill loves meeting new people and enjoys a good chat at the reception desk. Away from work, Jill loves socialising and has an interest in classic cars. Jill and her family welcomed their Labrador cross fur baby, Edison, in 2017.
Tori Buckley, Veterinary Nurse
Tori joined the clinic as a full-time veterinary nurse in July 2019. She started working in the industry after graduating from school in 2013 and completed her Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing in July 2017. She has a passion for animal health and loves seeing sick animals return home happy and healthy. In her spare time, Tori enjoys spending time with friends and family, loves going to the beach and hanging out with her two border collies, Koda and Freddie.
Maddison Van Noort, Trainee Veterinary Nurse
Maddi began a school-based traineeship with the Clinic in February 2018 whilst completing year 12 and is now progressing well through her Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing. Maddi particularly enjoys assisting with surgical procedures and has an excitable maltese, Bella, and a lazy cat, Louie. In her spare time, Maddi enjoys attending concerts and seeing live bands, visiting the beach and adventures in nature.
Lucinda Diga, Veterinary Nurse
Lucinda started at Birkdale Veterinary Clinic in 2009 as a casual clinic assistant before commencing full-time work in 2011.
She completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing with the Animal Industries Resource Centre in August 2017 and has a keen interest in emergency medicine and surgery. Since Lucinda and her partner, Liam, welcomed the arrival of their beautiful son, Henry, in April 2019, Lucinda has transitioned to part-time work. Away from work, Lucinda has two rescue cats, Millie and Ivy, and a bearded dragon.
